The fact that New Zealand potatoes have been prohibited irom being landed in Victoria, following the rejection of a consignment on the ground that the tubers were alleged to have powdery scab, is viewed with amazement in produce circles in Sydney says the “Telegraph.” It is stated officially that New Zealand shipments of potatoes arriving in Sydney are not only of good, quality and splendidly graded, but are free from disease, with the exception of traces of rhientonin, which is in the form of a. scab common, to potatoes the world over. The inspection officers had carefully examined all arrivals and as a further precaution samples have been sent to t.ie State assistant biologist for microscopic examination. They were pronounced free from disease. A representative of the Victorian Department of Agriculture lias been sent/to the border to prevent New Zealand potatoes crossing from New South Whiles to Victoria.
