THE PLAY. (Received this day at 11.0 a.m.) LONDON, August 25. The weather was warm and wicket good for the match at Canterbury, and the attendance twelve thousand. Payton scored 109, Plilit 50 and A. Staples 82. Allan took 4 for 86. Notts in the second innings made 190 for 6 and declared. Why-sail made 106. .Middlesex in the first innings made 209. -Mann being not out 77. S. Staples took 4 for 46. and Barratt 4 for 53. In the second Middlesex made 354 : Allen scoring 103, Hemlren 82. and Mann 54. S. Staples .took 5 for 57. Notts won by fourteen runs.

For Gloucester against Essex. Seabrook made 132. .For Essex, Nieholls took 7 for 90. The match was drawn For Derby against Kent, Lee made 191 and Worthington took 4 for 74, and Lee 5 for 87. For Kent Freeman took 6 for 120. The match was drawn. For Glamorgan against 'Worcester. Turnbull bade 106 not out, and Mercer took 6 for 33.
