VEST COAST TOURNEY. GREYMOUTH, August 26. Ideal weather prevailed for the opening ol the West Coast Golf Tournament at the Ornoto Links yesterday. A large number of competitors from all the Vest Coast Clubs were present while amongst the visitors were representatives from Canterbury and Wellington Chibs. The links were in excellent condition. , The best outstanding score of the day was made by A. Sime of Westport, who struck the form which won him the New Zealand Championship in IS2I, and returned a card of 72, and his aggregate for the day was 150. The Dalgleish Shield was retained by Westport, with a total of .‘122 against Greymouth No. 1 team 341 and Greymouth No. 2 team 342. The following qualified for the men’s championship:—Sirne 72 and 78, 150; Park. 81 and 79. 160; Meldrum. 80 and 82, 162; Mnthieson, 81 and 86, 167; McCarthy. 83 and 81. 169; Lovell. 83 and 87, 172; Loftus, 87 and 86, 173. The best scores in the ladies’ qualifying round were Hiss Conway 91, Miss Wilson 93. Mrs Slee 93, Mrs Cunningham 95, Aliss Gristed 33, Miss Lynskey 99, Miss Kettle 101, Airs Fletcher 101. The medal in connection with the qualifying round was was by AlcKeclinie fS4—l4—79) in the morning, while Snell (92—20—72). and Park (79— 7 72) tied in the afternoon round for the trophy. The Ladies’ Challenge Shield was won by AA’estpnrt, the previous holders being Greymouth, tW scores being:—
