Play opened brightly, Collins being unusually vigorous driving and cutting in line style. When the total was 225, the Australian skipper turning one from Bridges to leg was well taken hv Longrigg. The partnership with Ryder produced ninety-five runs in seventy minutes. Ryder hit six fours. The Australian innings was declared closed after half an hour’s play. Everett and Hendry were entrusted with Australia’s second attack but Hendry was unable to find his length and vj is not dangerous. Mcßryan and I,von gave a spirited display, vetting powerfully and billing vigorously to Peg. The Australian fielding, however, was very keen and kept the runs down. Mneßryan who was confident at the start later made a common mistake of edging Grimmett’s break and when the total was fifty-three Ellis snapped him up smartly. Lyon played aggressive!v and showed strong v.iist work. He cut and hit Grimmett to the leg bonmkirv three times in one ever. Bnniell hatted seratchily at the start, mistiming nearly every hall. Then lie forced the pace, driving powerfully. He was hadlv missed by Ryder when fourteen off Richardson. hut eventually was taken in the long field by Ponsford. The liartnership bn; yielded fifty in twenty-seven minutes and tho hoard read 122 for 4. Lyon was thoroughly set, and continued to hit freely. When ninety two ho was missed by Ryder at second slip, off Hendry. He reached the century in 115 minutes. This is only the second century scored in a Countj match against the Australians, Longrigg also played vigorously and soundly, mid the partnership with Lyon added 67. Then Longrigg was well taken in the slips. Lyon and Earle adopted forcing tactics. Earle was dropped by Taylor in the long-field when five, and two halls later J,von "'as caught on tho boundary line. His timing was superb. He was never at fault and his log strokes and cutting were very sound. It was the best display against the Australians by anv member of a County team. He hatted for 165 minutes, his score including one six and twentyone fours. The total was now 207 fo:
Hunt took up the talc and brought off some excellent shots. When the score was 244 lie snicked a ball to Gregory who made a great catch. Bridges lasted only for live halls, and Glasgow four, the innings concluding twenty minutes from time with n victory for Australia.
