Tht schools in the district commenced tho term holidays of a fortnight to-day. Tho aimupl meeting of tho Hokitika Bowling Club takes place on Wednesday at 7 p.m. sharp. In tho last gazette the secretary to the Treasury acknowledged receipt of the following amounts, forwarded by persons unknown, as conscience-money to tho New Zealand Government: £2 forwarded to tho Railway Department, Dunedin ; £5 forwarded to the Defence Department, Wellington; 2s (id and £1 forwarded to the Treasury Department, "Wellington.
