Tt will play preliminary matches on 12th and 16th and then the first big game at Lyons on 19th. LEAGUE RIFT. CHRISTCHURCH, August 23. How Dr Thacker, President of the Canterbury Rugby Football League, has threatened not to sign a cheque to enable the Canterbury team to visit Auckland and how lie and others threatened to disassociate themselves from the League was revealed at a special meeting of delegates on Saturday. A dispute had arisen it appeared over the appointment of a finance manager to go with the team, as suggested by Monica Park Board of Control and when the League Executive opposed this course. Dr Thacker then made the threat. The discussion on the matter was taken in camera.
