At Greymouth on Saturday morning Patrick Joseph Creagh, ail employee of tho Brunner Borough Council was charged with theft of £49 from the Council. Ho was remanded on bail of £2OO till to-day. Other charges are stated to bo pending.

The death took place at the Westland Hospital yesterday of Mr Nieklas Jorgensen, an inmate of the Old People’s Home far some years. The deceased was formerly a miner engaged in the Stafford district. He was a native of Denmark and had attained the ripe ago of 94 years.

The funeral of the late John Mitchell of Mikonui took place at Boss yesterday afternoon, and was very large ly attended. The last of the concrete piers (number seven) at the K a varan Dam was finished on Tuesday, and a supreme effort is being made to complete the two bridge spans which form connecting links with this pier. All the gates are already in position? and it only requires the above-mentioned two bridge spans to bo finished and an adjustment to the counter-balance boxes to be made to enable the pntes to bo opened and closed with ease and precision. Four or five days hence should see this accomplished. Meantime, other gangs are employed clearing away the obstructions in the lake above the dam, and in the river below the structure. The wing and coffer dams will go skywards in about a weeks time. As soon as men are free to proceed with the erection of the wing walls above and below number one pier, this undertaking will be commenced. Meanwhile, stone for this is being quarried in readiness.
