In regard to the controversy arising from Ncpiji’s defection from the Maori tour, Air J. IT. Prenderville stated at a meeting of the Afanagemant Committee to-night that the AA’ellington R.ngby Union desired to refute the impression that they had taken any hand in the stirring up of trouble. The matter was essentially one between tfie New Zealand Rugby Union and Hawke’s Bay, not. between the Wellington Rugby Union and Hawke’s Bay, as a retfent press message from Napier liad appeared to convey. solutcly contrary to fact, as the AA’ellingt.on Union had no hand in the investigation of tho matter.

CHILD’S DEATH. HAWFRA, August 19. Resulting from injries received by falling into a deep pot of boiling water on Tuesday, a child, Alabcl Alyrtle dames, one year and eleven months, died at Knppnga hospital yesterday evening. The accident happened at a farm near Opunake where tho mother was employed.
