The pilot was evidently attempting a forced landing in a meadow five ,miles irom Lympne in a fog and rain. After circling at a low altitude, he struck the barn roof, after which lie had no control. One of the wings was knocked off by the top of a haystack. The other hit a second stack, turning the machine completely round before it crashed. The forepart crumpled tip into a mass of wreckage, buried in the scattered bay. A farmer and three labourers bad a very narrow escape from a shower of debris while standing near the barn. They ran to give assistance, and found the passengers thrown in a -heap at the side of the saloon. One of those killed was an American, and another an Italian. Nine others were injured critically, and are in Folkstone Hospital. The second victim of the Lympne air smash Ts dead.

He knew nothing of the existence of a third child. The Coroner said the obviors cause of- tbe tragedy was the mother’s fee that the children- would tell their father about their bubv sister.

MEAT PROFITEERING. LONDON. August 19. A deputation from tbe Allied MeatTraders’ Association interviewed Sir Joseph Cook (Australian High Commissioner), to point out that the figures that recently were quoted by Mr J. IT. Thomas and others in the House of Commons and elsewhere, designed to show the enormous disparity between the wholesale and retail prices of Australian meat, were unfair, exaggerated and misleading. The speakers stated Mr Thomas’s striking figures-were obtained by qnot- : ing the retail prices for the choicest cuts sold in the dearest suburbs, and comparing them with the wholesale prices for the whole carcases of mutton and lamb, and for the crops and hinds of beef. The deputation produced the Smithfield Superintendent’s weekly list of fair retail prices in support of their contention. SPANISH CONTROL. LONDON, August IS. Discussion lias been aroused in diplomatic circles by the declaration of Director Primo De Rivera in favour of a great Sapnisli share in the control of Tangier. Tt is now reported that the Minister of State is authorising the publication in Madrid of the Ttalo-Spanish treaty. It is emphasised that there are no secret clauses and it is’ added that there is every- reason why Spain should incorporate tbe town of Tangier in her protected zone, on. the condition that she does not fortify it or establish a naval base, and grants all nations complete liberty of trade.
