The County Clerk at Wednesday’s meeting of the Grey County Council stated that the Westland County had not favoured the purchase of a small car for the use of the Traffic: Inspector, the other local bodies in the-No. 12 Highways District all favouring the proposal. Tt was suggested that the Grey County Council, which was acting as “manager” might consider providing the ear, and charging the recognised scale rate of 8d per mile, on the. active mileage travelled by it, to each local body in whose interest respective journeys were made. The charge would, in time, liquidate the cost of the calami. provide funds for its maintenance. It was decided to refer the question again to the Westland County. The County Clerk remarked that already the Inspector had contributed to the revenue as a result of two trips along the rood. With a car at’his disposal, he could go further afield, and would probably catch “overweights’ all over the district, and incidentally considerably add to the heavy weight motor fees.
