UNREGISTERED DENTISTS
MR A GLAND’S REPORT. WELLINGTON. August 17. 'fife Hon J. A. Young, Minister of Public Health, to-night released the report of Mr H. D, Acland, solicitor, Christchurch, who was appointed a Royal Commissioner to conduct an. ininquiry into the claim of unregistered dentists to be allowed to sit for examination. Tlie commissioner recommended that fifty-seven persons be allowed to sit for examination, of whom thirty-two are returned soldiers, six are discharged soldiers who served in New Zealand only and nineteen others, and that such persons, on passing such examination, be entitled to registration as dentists. That an examination in dentistry, including dental suuffory, bo held in December, 1027, and a further examination in the month of December, 1928, for those applicants who may not have satisfied the examiners in 1927. That the syllabus of such examination he prescribed by the Senate of the versitv of New Zealand upon the recommendation of the Dental Faculty of the University of Otago, and be as nearly ns possible similar in character, but not lower than that prescribed in 1922 and 1923. 'Flint sucTT examinations be conducted by the Senate of the University of New Zealand in the months of December. 1927 and 1928. That legislation be introduced in accordance with the above recommendations. including provision that the fiftyseven -persons named max' practise dentistry up to and not later than March 31. 1929. It is the intention of the Government to promote legislation in accordance with the findings of the Commissioner. and the Minister hopes to have it ready in time for this session.
