I IKSDAV, AUGUST 17th. OVERSEER MILLNER’S MONTHLY REPORT. I havo the honour to report upon the progress of works during the month ol' July. NORTHERN RIDING. ICumara to KaJpitea, £4OO. The contractor for this work is making failprogress with the clearing and formation. So iur all the work has been completed in a satisfactory manner, j Palmer’s Creek Bridge and approach, I £350. The work of widening the for- 1 ination and constructing wire net and i stono wing abutments was continued I and completed sufficiently to allow , traffic to cross the bridge. The bal- ; ance remaining from the vote will be j exhausted' during August when the j whole of tile work wiil lie completed according to plan and specification.. -MAINTENANCE. The Roadman attended to repairs to Arahura Valley, Humphreys, Blue Spur, and Arahura Roads. The whole of the Bx 3 decking which was de- ' feetivo was removed and replaced with | Bx 4 planking on a twelve foot culvert i on One Mile Road. ! CENTRAL RIDING. j Harris Creek Bridge, £250 grant, . was completed in a very satisfactory manner by the Bridge. Foreman and party curly in July.
Outlet Drain Bridge, £l5O. The working party under the . direction of Bridge Foreman Reynolds has this work well in hand and me bridge and approaches should he completed bv August 21st, Kanieri River Bridge repairs, £2OO. A quantity of timber for repairs to this bridge is delivered, and the work of renewal .will be in hand .about 23rd August.
Kanieri River Bridge repairs, Lake Kanieri Road. A portion of the necessary heart of rimu timber has been delivered in readiness for repairs to Ire effected after the Kanieri River Bridge, Lower Kokatalii Road. Wall Road metalling, £350 grant. The contractors for this work have commenced operations, hut the continued wet weather caused the gravel pits to become flooded, and in consequence very slight progress was mado during the month. MAINTENANCE. Repairs were effected to motor worn holes on Upper and Lower Kokatalii land Lake Kanieri Roads; had holes and ruts were repaired on a portion of Arthnrstown and Blue Spur Roads with gravel, and on Lower Artliurstown and Hokitika-Hau Hail Roads with crushed metal front the metal crusher, Kanieri. Watertables were denned on Lake Kanieri, HokitikaHau Han. and Lower Kokatalii Roads. Sod don’s Terrace Road was cleared of overgrowth, and the watertables cleaned cm both sides of the road over a distance of 50 chains, and the grass
growth cleared from the road edge and graded from Riniu to Overlook Hill, the terminus of the road, exhausting the vote of £4B. Back Creek Road widening was continued and the old road widened to fourteen feet with gravel over a distance of 14 chains, and repaired with gravel a further distance of eight chains, which exhausted the vote of £IOO.
The stone crusher was worked and a quantity, of metal crushed and carted out for repairs to various roads, all the equipment being in first, class running order.
Wandering stock were impounded from the Lower Kokatahi Road in the Hokitika Borough Pound, and from Lower Kokatahi and Blndier’s Road in the County Round, Upper Kokatahi. SOUTHERN RIDING. Evans Haul drainage and metalling, £3OO. The contractors are making a good job throughout, but wet weather and sickness has prevented the completion of the work. MAINTENANCE. Repairs were effected by the Roadman to Wanganui Elat and Petersen’s Roads; also to u culvert on Wanganui Flat Road, near Haddock Road. This culvert collapsed under a motor lorry, not heavily laden. Tovar a Road repairs, £25 vote of the Council, were continued and completed over a distance of two and a half miles, good value being obtained for the amount expended.
