THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.

The Bible In Schools. The Hon A. S: Malcolm, M.L.C., opposed the Rill on the grounds that religious teaching should be given hv religious people, and that the State should exercise no authority in religious matters. He was a very strong Protestant, and for that reason lie was anxious that this country should respect the consciences of other sects. He was with Bishop Cleary in holding that the conscience clause should be in the direction of parents asking for religious instruction for their children and not being compelled to ask for exemption.
