HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
■ FRIDAY, AUGUST 13th. The Council met at 7.30 p.m. Pres-ent:—-Messrs G. A. Perry (Mayor), AV. Jeffries, J. King, H. T. Parry, J. Lloyd and 11. M. Coulson. The Auditor-General returned the balance-sheet duly certified to, with a tag that as no provision was contained in the loan proposal tor the purchase of plant, the cost thereof cannot be legally charged to the account and the amount charged, £lßl Os Id. must be refunded.—Deceived. The tender of AA r . E. Richards for printing same was accepted. VOTE OF SYMPATHY.
The Mayor moved a vote of condolence with -Air G. H. Blank, the Ho" n Clerk to write and express the Council’s best wishes for a speedy recovery. Seconded by AH Jeffries and carried. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. IN AWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Westland Sub-Union protesting against the cutting down oi the trees on Cass Square.—Received. From Grey County Council notifying a meeting, of delegates to the AYest Coast Highways Board, at (Ureymouth on the 19th in.st., to consider purchase of a car for inspector and other busi-ness.^—-Received. Mr Jeffries moved that Mr Coulson represent the Council. Seconded by the Mayor and carried, the Council not .to be bound for more than one year.
From Bulier County Council erence to purchase a car lor motor inspector, expressing the opinion that il a car is not provided it would he better for the joint appointment to cease. —Received.
From Hawera Borough Council requesting support to objection to the proposed Town Planning Bill, with a request that the Government refer the Bill to tie various Boroughs for their opinion.—Received; to be supported. Afn Jeffries urging that the Bill should bo sent to the Municipal Conference for discussion and report- before legislative action was taken. From N.Z. Refrigerating Company, notifying 47 sheep had been sent to Hokitika during the month.—Received. From J. Lincoln and others, drawing attention to state of drain in front of premises, Rolleston Street and asking for attention. —Received ; referred to Public AVorks Committee for report. From J. J. Krakowsky, thanking the Council in connection with rubbish dump.—Received. From D. Davidson, asking for drainage connection with property Bealey Street.—Received and request granted on usual terms. From C. Cedennan in connection with contract for cartage of pipes.— Received; consideration deferred to next meeting, the Overseer to report.
REPORTS. From Treasurer reporting receipts £147 Is, payments £573 3s, debit balance £330 Us 6tl.—Received. Accounts amounting to £709 12s 2d were passed for payment. FOREMAN’S REPORT. I beg to report the following works were carried out during the month of July:— i The footpath on the east side of Brittan St. between Hampden and Stafford Streets was chipped and gravelled, the footpath in Sowell St. between Kirwan’s Garage and the Roman Catholic School was formed and gravelled; the footpaths in Hall St., between Weld and Hamilton Sts. was gravelled. Two crossings were put in at Baty s Garago, one in Sewell St. and one in AYelcf St.
Five chains of one foot concrete pipes were laid on the west side of Holleston St. between Stafford and AVeld Sts. A tank and stand were put in at the Sexton’s residence. The inside and tdp of the parapet of the Library was tarred. Three water connections were renewed, one at the Convent, one in Britten St. and one at the drinking trough in AYcld St. A portion of Sewell St. drain collapsed in freiJTt of the Soldiers’ Hall, the covering and side giving away, for a distance of fourteen ft., which we renewed. Park St. from Fitzlierbert to Sale St. .Hampden St. from, Bealey St. to the racecourse Hill, Sale and Brittan Sts. between Park and Hampden Sts. wore graded. Brittan St. drain was cleaned out between Hampden and Park Sts. between AA’cld St. and the Quay, and also a portion of Park St, drain and a further portion of Brittan St. was gravelled on the east side of the Square. Three 3ft. and 10 I ft. concrete pipes were made during the month. AA'ater in the Reservoir was from eight to ten feet for the month. —Received. From Manager Abattoirs (J. Jarman) reportnag;during July there were examined :—22 cows, 15 heifers, 82 billlocks, 300 sheep, 1 lamb. ]3 pigs, 16 calves. Condemned: 1 cow. Fees for period £73 11s (same period last year £7O 4s Od). —Received. Air King reported that Air Barrowmail had thrown up his concreting contract and it was resolved that the work he left to the Overseer to carry out. The Abattoir Committee were authorised to have some drains cleaned out.
No lenders were received for cutting and removal of trees on Cass Square. Consideration deferred till next meeting. Tlie Council rose at 8.15 p.m.
