SUPREME COURT. NEW PLYMOUTH, Aug. 12. At tho Supremo Court, Sydney Wallace Hardie found guilty yesterday of attempted carnal knowledge and other charges, was sentenced to reformative detention for a period not exceeding three years. HOUSE BURNT. OAMARU, Aug. 12. A three-roomed cottage at Eeidston was burned to the ground early this morning. An elderly man Robert Kerr Clark, who lived alone in the cottage is missing. It is feared he lias been incinerated. No trace of the remains have been foil ml by the police so far. GUILTY OF THEFT. AUCKLAND, Aug. 12. John Francis Sdidroski pleaded guilty at the police court to theft of articles valued at twenty pounds from a follow employee on a farm, and was committed for sentence. He admitted be cut into another mail’s trunk with a tin opener. ‘
CHARGED WITH MURDER. TIMA 111), Aug. 12. At the -Magistrate’s Court, Owen Joseph Frrtncis McKee, was charged with the murder of Duval Earle England, at Makikihi on July 29th. On the application of tho police a remand was granted to Aug. 19th.
A CLERK’S LAPSE. MARTON, Aug. 12
Leslie Faithful Henry, a clerk in tho Magistrate’s Court, ,Marton, pleaded guilty before a Justice of failing to account for Government moneys amounting to £l4B and was committed to tho Supreme Court,_ Wanganui, for sentence. Bail was allowed. He is aged 22 and married, and came here in January. The evidence showed various sums bad been taken during the period of January to July.
