There was only a sprinkling of spectators. Fiddinn Green and Hewitson made a bright start, both cutting and driving powerfully, hitting Gregory and Mniley. They took the total past 349 which was the previous best score by a County against the Australian put up by Middlesex at Lords. The pair played excellently aid round the wicket. Torrential rain fell during lunch turning tho ground into a morass and the game was abandoned at 2.40 p.m. unfinished. The pair put on seventy-three runs.
