BEAM RADIO. OTTAWA, August 5. A telegram from Montreal states General Manager Short, of the Canada Marconi Company, has informed the Australian Press Association that the receiving-transmitting stations yesterday at Mnoliicho and Drummondsyillo were ready to begin beam tests with England, and were only waiting word that the English stations were ready« which. is expected shortly. The whole transmitting and receiving apparatus here has been circuit tested, and found in working order. It pointed out a delay is being caused by the desire o! the British Marconi official that the land lines which automatically will relay the messages from Bridgewater .to London, and from London to Bodmin should lie in perfect condition. The Canadian landlines have already been tested and are ready.-

A WAR PROBLEM. WASHINGTON. Aug. G. A conversation in connection with commercial and other claims between the United States and Britain is expected to be renewed in London in September. It is unlikely that an American mission will be sent for the purpose, which is to decide some outgrowths of the Allies’ blockade of the Central Bowers, prior to the American entry into the war. and many unconnected with it. Surprise was expressed by tl 10 State Department at the London view. The discussion introduced the general question of British wartime blockade policy. It is indicated the conversations are thus far confined to an examination of the various categories of the claims involved. Among them, are those of the British Admiralty against the American navy in connection with war operations and similar war claims against Britain, which counterclaims the two Governments were of the same general character and the claims of individuals of both nations. Thus far nothing in the nature of negotiations for a settlement or agreement has been discussed.
