(Australian A N.Z. Cable Association.] LONDON. Aug. 3. Sporting critics regard Afdllc Lenglen’s decision as a bombshell, which may have far-seaching effect upon her tennis. It is conceded that Lenglen has no particular financial reason for throwing up her amateur status, as she has a big income through films, hook writing and newspaper articles. Her income from photograph fees alone is considerable. The change will prevent her competing lit Riviera and ‘Wimbledon Tournaments and may even affect exhibition play. The “Daily Chronicle” after dscussing the matter with the leading English amateurs now playing at Eastbourne, says there is no general move towards professionalism, blit players are unable to say what may linn-' if tlie proniters organise an exhibition tourney, or tournament. Thus South African and Australian tours might tempt some amateurs. PARIS, Aug. 2.
Z\rdl!e. Lenglen, with her parents' consent-, has signed a contract with tlio American, Air Charles Pyle, to play exhibition matches indoors and outdoors in the United States, Canada, .Cuba, and Mexico for a period of four months. Tt is understood that she receives 110 thousand dollars, plus interest in the film rights. She will give her first exhibition on October 10th. Her mother and maid will accompany he l ’- Mr Pjfle states Mdlle. Lenglen will meet some of the best American amateurs. Later, on he hopes to take Mdlle. Lenglen on an extended.tour of the world.
