VISIT OF BIOLOGIST.

LECTURE ON FRIDAY. Mr C. S. Dalgliesh, Fields Instructor, has written to the Progress League ns under : Sir, —Dr Hilgendorf, Biologist and Acting-Director of Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln, is visiting the Coast this week for the purpose of securing Cooksfoot plants from old established pastures as the first step towards improvement of this well known grass throughout New Zealand.

He had communicated with the West Coast A. and P. Association on the question of information where Cocksfoot plans could he procured from different types of land on this Coast. The A. and P. Association passed his letter on to me, hence my being in communication with him. Dr Hilgendorf is keenly interested in the establishment of pastures, and when writing him I.asked him. if he would give a lecture whilst on this Coast. He has replied that lie will willingly do so. 1 heard him! give a lecture at the Timaru Farm School on the subject of his trip, home to the Old Country, dealing with farming matters in the Old Country. ft was quite good, and I have suggested that he deliver such a lecture while on the Coast, I received a wire from him on Saturday from Blenheim advising that he would arrive from Nelson at Reeftou on Wednesday evening and would he leaving the Coast on Saturday. 1 do not think he has a fixed itinerary for the two days that he will be here, hut will leave it to me to advise as to where best he should visit! I am suggesting to lum that he visit Grey Valley 'district on Thursday and Kokatalii-Koiterangi districts on tho Friday, which we would lie either at Greymouth or Hokitika on the Thursday night, and would he at Hokitika on the Friday night, This would mean that lie could deliver a lecture at Hokitika, on that night (Friday). Could you arrange for this, and give same publicity. I will meet Dr Hilgendorf at Reefton on Wednesday night, and will communicate with you first thing on Thursday morning.”

Arrangements have been made tin a lecture to he delivered in the Town 'Hall, Hokitika, and it is hoped the farmers' from the surrounding districts and all others interested—will attend in numbers. A further announcement will appear in to-morrow’s issue.
