FOOTBALL.
WESTLAND SUB-UNION
The Committee met last evening at 8 o’clock. Present: Messrs F. McGregor (Chairman), Breeze, Stafford, Moore, Steele, Partridge and Ileenan. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspndence approved. ISTAYA RD CORRESPONDENCE. The Referees’ reports on several matches at the week-end were received and approved. From AY.C.R.U. in reference to representative matches. —Received. Referee Partridge reported a Rimu player for swearing.—Received and player placed on the caution, list. Mr Steele made a request for permission to play a match Red Lion v. AVestland Juniors on Saturday at 3 p.m.—Received and granted; a list of the team to be supplied; gate receipts to go towards injured players. The Chairman moved that nominations be called for a two-round competition for the Breeze Shield, nominations to close on Monday next, junior teams to be eligible to enter and the competition to rank as senior.—Seconded liy Mr Dowell and carried. It . was resolved to notify the AY.C.R.U. of the withdrawal of the senior team from the competition. It was resolved to offer Merivale Juniors (Christchurch) the total gate for a match at Hokitika. SATURDAY’S FIXTURES. Fixtures for the week-end were as foiloivs :
3rd. Grade—Excelsiors v. Rimu at Hokitika, 3 p.m. Kiwis v. School at Hokitika at 1.30 p.m. Benefit match—Red Lion v. Westland at 3 p.m. Juniors—Kokntahi v. Kanieri at Kokatalii at 3 p.m. 8-STONE GR ADE. AVednesday at 3.30.—5ch00l B. v. Arahura-Convent. Saturday—Hokitika. A. v. Rimu at Rimu.
The 8-stone match last AVednesday, School A. and B. did not take place and on Saturday at Ross, Ross defeated Convent-Arahura bv 3—o.
MAORIS WIN AGAIN. 57 TO NIL. {Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.! (Received this day at 8 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Aug'. 3. In the second Rugby match, the •Maoris defeated Victoria by 57 to nil. Tho Maori team was:—McDonald, Graer, Phillips, Robinson, Lockwood, Met, Sliortland, Bell, J. Gemmell, Stewart, Manihera, Tataria, Manning. Crawford, Dennis. Victoria was not strongly represented and was hopelessly outclassed. The Maoris scored seventeen tries, three of which were converter. The attendance was moderate.
