It is the roasting of Coffee-berries that results in tin l development of flic exquisite flavour so much appreciated by coffee-drinkers. That is well known. But it is not so well known that our New Zealand grown tobaccos are now subjected to the same roasting or toasting process, and with the same rosullt. The flavour is brought fully out, while at the same time the deleterious properties of the tobacco are destroyed. Alt tobaccos, no matter •where gifown, have this in common—that they contain Nicotine, some more somo less. And it is tins poison that is chiefly responsible for the sufferings of those who indulge too freely in the use of the fragrant weed. Heart and nerves are generally affected and often the eyesight. Scientists now tell us that toasting neutralises part of the Nicotine and tb/it toasted tobaccos may, therefore, he smoked with impunity. They/ recommend Diver head Gold, mild and aromatic; Toasted Navy Cut (Bulldog), medium strength; and the full bodied Cut Plug No 10 (Bullhead label). All are toasted.— Advt.

In fact, the figures supplied by die Labour Bureau, and information from other sources, tend to indicate that the position is far from satisfactory, and that it is now likely to become still more acute within the course of the next few days. The total restrictions are now 67, as compared with 56 last week.
