A recent criticism of the Auckland “Herald” said:—The programme presented was bright and sparkling throughout, and rounds of applause alternated with hursts of laughter from beginning to end. Sam Stern was the outstanding figure of the company, and his items were all received with great enthusiasm, many of them being heartily encored. Miss Peggy, Peat is a talented member of the company, her captivating songs and sketch work are features of the show. Unstinted applause was also received by Veta Hilbert lor her singing of “ Lo! Hear the Gentle Lark,” it was an excellent performance and fully merited the enthusiasm with which it was greeted. Veta Gilbert was also heard with Francis Cornwall in “ Estudiantina ” and
“ 0 Solo Mio.” which was applauded appreciatively. In a lighter role Francis Cornwall sang the Showman. Stan Hudson-Airtb gave a capable rendering of “ Im a Batchelor ” and also appeared in “I Don’t Believe You” with Nnnova Baudinet, the latter appeared to advantage in the “ Valso Movement ” from “ Faust.” Marie Frances is a souhrotte who can entertain as well ns the best, and sings “ Hypnotise ” with good effect-. The clever comedy work of Mr Arthur Burns was most entertaining, his humour is clean and smart and his monologue work is especially attractive. Mr Arthur Carlisle who possesses a sweettoned tenor voice made a great impression and was promptly encored until Nirvana.” Nnnova Baudinet was .responsible for clever dancing acts, in which many styles of dancing were illustrated including the Charleston. In another attractive item “Rhymes” Marie Francis shared honors with Sam Stern. The Harmony Trio won applause for their numbers, and had to respond to recalls. The programme also included several clever sketches and rousing choruses by the company, the final one, a musical extravaganza, compiled by Sam Stern, being especially attractive and bringing the entertainment to a fitting conclusion. The box plans for the local season are now open at Mclntosh's, confectioners.
