(BY TELEGRAPH FER PRESS ASSOCIATION l WELLINGTON, July 30. THE COUNCIL. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 P-ni. The Justices of the Peace Amendment BiH, Nurses’ and Midwives’ Begistration Amendment Bill and Fire Brigades Bill were received from the House pf Representatives and read a first time. Petitions and the Religious Exercises in Schools Bill were referred to a special committee. The Gaming Amendment Bill was, considered in committee. Practically every clause was contested by divisions but the only amendment affected was a slight one dealing 'with certain words restricting the reasons for permitting the transfer of totalisator licenses from, one course to another to circumstances of improvement or reconstruction. Tile Council adjourned at 5.24 p.m. until 2.30 next day. THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. Tlie whole of the afternoon was taken up with a discussion on the annual report of the Agricultural Department and it was not concluded at 5.30 p.m. At the evening sitting, the third reading of the Police Offences Amendment Bill was taken, when one division was called for by the Labour Party. The motion was agreed to by 44 to 20. The Local Government Loans Board Bill was read a. second time on the voices. Vakution of Land Amendment Bill was read a second time pro forma, and referred to the Lands Committee. The House rose at 1.13 a.m. till 2.30 p.m.
