A CONFLICT REPORTED. .MEXICO CITY, July 27
The first violent death in the conflict between the Mexican Government and the Catholic Church is reported from the State of Zacatecas, where the Mayor of Nocbistan is alleged to have attacked a Priest and to have been lynched. A second version says that the priest was murdered by the Mayor, named Cervantes, and that the Mayor was then stoned to death bv the mob, which killed all the members of tho Mayor’s family. Both reports are tin-' confirmed.
MEXICO’S CHURCHES. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) VANCOUVER, July 28. A message from Mexico City states that the Government to-day issued orders refusing to permit Catholic priests when they cease to function at midnight on Saturday to turn over tho churches to committees of laymen. The Government ordered that the churches he placed in charge of committees appointed by the Mayors of each city and town.
