Tn connection with Iho proposed visit cf the Duke and Duchess of York ( to New Zealand, the Governor-General . on 20th July sent an behalf of the Government the following telegram to the Secretary of State for Dominion affairs:— “In view of the announcement of . tlie projected visit of their Royal - Highnesses, tho Duke and Duchess of York to Australia- next year, I am requested by my Government to ask you to convey to their Royal Highnesses the respectful earnest hope that the visit may he extended to Now Zealand, where their Royal Highnesses may he assured of the warmest of welcomes. Such a, visit would give im- ’ mence pleasure to His Majesty’s subjects in tlie/Dominion who would welcome tlio opportunity of showing their loyalty and attachment to His Majesty in tlie persons of their Royal Highnesses. It is hoped that tlieir Royal Highnesses will consent to he the guests of the New Zealand Government during tlie visit.” (Signed) Governor-General. Ilis Excellency has received tlie following reply:—- , “Your telegram of 20th July has been laid before flip King, who is graciously pleased to consent to their Royal High nesses, the Duke and Duchess of York accepting the invitation of your Government to extend to New Zealand their proposed visit to Australia next year. Their Majesties retain the happiest memories of the warmth and affection with which they were received on their visit to New Zealand twenty-five years ago. and they are delighted to think their sou and daughter-in-law will be following in tlieir footsteps. ft affords their Royal Highnesses very great pleasure to accept the invitation of your Government to visit New Zealand as tlieir guests and they look forward to the visit with the keenest anticipation.” (Signed) Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs. The Governor-General lias sent the following reply:— “My Government desires me to express their great satisfaction that His Majesty has been graciously pleased to consent to -the visit of their Royal Highnesses to the Dominion and in assure tlieir Royal Highnesses that the warmest welcome amits thorn.”
