FRENCH INTENTIONS

(Received this day at 9.0 a.m.) PARIS, July 25,

Inspired quarters have lifted the veil on the Government’s financial intentions, sufficiently to indicate two years’ prorogation will not be adopted. On the contrary. Parliament will probably sit until mid-August and vote a comprehensive series of measures involving four to five milliards increased taxation, direct and indirect, wherein succession duties will figure largely. Government ruled out a capital levy, moratorium and fresh inflation, and will honour the . debt agreements though it will seek a modification of the Washington Convention with

view to the insertion of transfer classes. Finally, the stabilisation of the franc will be left until the exchange position is remedied.

[“Sydney Sun” Cables.]

(Received this day at 9.0 n.m.l LONDON, July 25

Twenty-seven crammed trains left London's two termini, necessitating the use of eighteen crossChannel steamers which were filled capacity.
