BAN ON RELIGION. AIENICO CITY, July 23The President of Mexico, Senor Callos, to-day proclaimed regulations giving effect to a constitutional prohibition of religious teaching in the private schools of Mexico. These regulations are supplementary to religious laws which are to cominto effect at the end of this month. The new laws give the Government complete power to regulate the churches and the schools. Henceforth no minister of any religious cult may act as the director of. or as a teacher in any private school. The use of the chapels, oratories, or of any other places of religious worship as schools is banned.
RAILWAY TROUBLE. VANCOUVER, July 23. A mesage from Nogales, Arizona, states: A general strike! involving 70.000 workers on the Arexiean national railway lines, has been called for tomorrow morning. MEXICO CITY, July 24. The Confederation of Mexico Railroad Unions withdrew a general strike order. It is believed it was largely due to intervention by President Calles. HEAT WAVE IN AMERICA. NEW YORK, July 23. / Although cooler weather has been ex- v perieneed to-day in the eastern states and in Canada, an increase in the relative humidity has largely offset the drop in temperature. The list of deaths traceable to heat during the past week has increased steadily, and it is believed that the total will be several hundreds.
