A TORNADO

NEW YORK, July 23

The most distressing wind storm ever known in Eastern New' York took several lives and caused enormous property damage. Houses and hams were wrecked, and trees blown down, while the damage to crops alone is estimated at 250,000 dollars. A girl was killed by a falling tree. A labourer was crushed to death when a shed collapsed. Another was killed when a live wire fell. Many were injured hy falling trees when trapped in the automobile highway between Albany and Schenectday, which was completely blocked by trees, measuring two to three 'feet in diameter.’ The trolley service is completely disrupted; also telegraph communications. The crops in many instances were completely levelled.' Many windows were blown outward and broken. One small cottage was lifted entirely from its foundation and deposited a few fet away, a complete wreck. Many houses were partially wrecked. The whole tornado lasted less than twenty minutes.
