PARLIAMENT.
(BY TELEGRAPH PER PRESS ASSOCIATION THE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, July 22. The Legislative Council met at 2,30 to-day. In the course of a discussion on tho Census and .Statistics Bill, which was road a second time. Sir Heaton Rhodes welcomed a suggestion that the dates of taking the censuses throughout tho Empire should be synchronised, and said that it was perhaps worthy of consideration at tho Imperial Conference.
The Oil 1 in Territorial Waters Bill and the Destitute Persons Amendment Bill were read a second time, pro forma, and referred to the Statutes Revision Committee and the Evidence Amendment Bill and Death Duties Amendment Rill were each read a second time.
Replying to the ITon. Snodgrass in tho course of the consideration of the latter measures, Sir Heaton Rhodes said .lie could not hold out any hope of an amendment in the direction of exempting death duties on charitable and educational bequests. The Council adjourned at 3.13 until 2.30 to-morrow. THE HOUSE. Tho House met at 2.30 p.m. ITon J. A. Young announced Air Henry Dyke Ackland, barrister, had been appointed a Commissioner to report on the position of unregistered dentists assistants, the Commission to report hv the 16th August. The afternoon sitting was occupied with a discussion on reports on the Samoan mandated territory and on the Education Department. At the evening sitting, the Justice of Peace, and Nurses and Alidwives Registration Amendment Bills were read a second time. The Eire Brigades Bill was put through the committee stage. Teh House rose at 11.55.
