BOY SHOUTS

(Contributed.)

At the .mooting of the Second Troop Committee last week it was decided to hold the entertainment which has been in preparation for some time, at the beginning of next month. Rehearsals will occupy all available time for the next week or so and all taking part, especially those with vocal items, are asked to discard as soon as possible the cold in the head which is so much the fashion. Tu September the Second Troop will he three years old and fitting, celebrations of this are under consideration. It. Speed has boon appointed Senior Sixer of the pack, and in consequence the ITI no Six has had to find a new Sixer, this being AA r . Veale, with Tv. ITanrahan as bis second. S. .Tones and AVm. and Colin Ross have recently been enrolled as Tonclerpnds. J. ATc■Rougall has received bis first star, and C\ Duncan has gained the Guides’ Badge. In the Scouts several recruits have been busy at their tests, and it is hoped to enrol one or more this week. The patfols of Scouts have each a vacancy for another hoy over eleven years of age.

The next big international gathering of Scouts is expected to be in I*ngland in 1028. Centres no stronger than Hokitika were represented in the party of New Zealand Scouts which attended 'Wembley, and it is worth considering whether, with two years' prr paration. it might not fie possible to give a local boy a chance to take part in this wonderful experience. Some plan of combined preparation, followed by selection on merit alone by an impartial judge could easily make this possible, the chief obstacle being wh:4i is in these days known as an “infer-iority-complex” prevalent among our boys.
