Possibly, of all the promises made during and since the election, none has commanded' more attention than the undertaking to introduce legislation for the purpose of assisting the married worker with a family. This should lie the most important piece of social legislation placed before Parliament for some years. The Cabinet 1 ■ ■.- had the varied experience of other countries to guide it in deciding upon its policy, and it will be interesting to see what course Air Coates and his colleagues will adopt. Any attempt to shelve the matter would place the Government in a. most unfavourable light, for Air Coates has stated definitely that “this is part of our policy and legislation will he brought down this year,” and the Prime Minister added: “We have decided to do something.
