ADDINGTON STOCK SALES. (By Telegraph.— Special to Guardian.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Messrs H. Matson and Co. report as follows regarding their stock sale at Addington yards yesterday:— » Store Sheep:— A very small entry and mostly comprised of nonedescript lots. Several pens of North Island owes, ( which have been down here for sometime, were offered to-day for resale and generally speaking .showed a good profit. There were not many hoggets in, and oiie line of threequarter bred ewe hoggets made from 26s 9d to 2G.s lid; s.m. hoggets 21s to -3s; best forward wethers to 2Gs iOd; 4 and G-tooth three-quarter bred ewes to J7s; s.m. three-quarter bred ewes to 31s 9d; full and failing mouth owes I, P to 28s, 9d. The demand throughout was keen and practically every
lost was cleared at auction. E.it Pigs:—There was only a sinal entry and a keen demand for porkers and bacoiiers, prices improving in noth sections. Light porkers 60s to G3s heavy G7s to 78s; average 10i-d to lid. light baeoners £4 10s to £5 ss; heavy £5 15s to £6 ss; extra to £6 17s;
average 9d to 9Jd; choppers £4 to £8 18s. .Store Pigs:—A very small entry and a keen demand. The yarding comprised a few weaners, small stores and mediums. There were no large stores offering. Values: "Weaners 18s to 245; slips 26s to 28s Gd ; small stores 30s to 355; medium 37s to 425; sows in pig no to £5 ss. Store Cattle:—A small yarding, mostly nondescript lots, but one decent lino of about 30 station steers. 3 and 4 years old made £7 17s Gd to £9 2s Gd ; also 20 2V years and 3 years steers £6 to £7. There was no other quotable line. Beef:—•There was a very large yarding, comprising about 625 head, as against about 460 last week. The quality all round to-day was outstanding and the proportion of old and deeropid cows was much smaller than has been the case recently. Owing to the exceptionally heavy yarding the market showed a decline, although any good prime and well finished medium weight sorts showed little if any difference. Tho general quality of the market rejects tho excellent- winter conditions we have experienced in Canterbury this year. Prime steers £ls 15s to £l9: extra, to £24 12s Gd: medium £ll 10s to £l2 10s; others to £7 10s; prime cows £8 15s to £ll 10s; extra to £l3 17. s Gd; medium £5 15s to £8 10s; others to £4; prime heifers £9 to £ll "Ids: extra to £l4 7s Gd ; medium £G 1.5 s to £8 10s; others to £4 15s.
Fat. Sheep:-—There was a much smaller yarding than last week, comprising practically only nine races. The proportion of ewes was decidedly smaller than has been the ease recently but the quality all round was excellent •and included several outstanding lines of wethers, as well as a few pens of ewes which were mostly from South Canterbury. To-day was the first sale at Addington since the (losing of the freezing works, consequently exporters’ operations were non-existent, although one company was in tho market for local requirements. Ewes if anything, wore firmer, but wethers, in our opinion, were somewhat easier. Even so the sale showed little if any quotable difference from last week. Prime wethers 35s to 38s Gd ; extra to 43s IOd; medium 32s to 34s Gd; others to 36s 10(1; prime ewes 36s to 28s Gd ; extra to 35s IOd; medium 22s Gd to 25s Gd ;. others to 19s Gd. Fat Lambs: —Practically none were entered and they sold with tho fat sheep and wore all absorbed for local consumption.
