In the Commons answering a question, Sir Austen Chamberlain said lie ■was satisfied from inquiries that the Infer-Alled Military Control Commission had not seen a note to Germany on the subject of armaments. Asked if it might bo taken that the conditions as to armaments in Germany were satisfactory, .Sir A. Chamberlain replied: “I am sorry to say no.” A VETOED MEASURE. MANILA, July 21. The Senate unanimously repassed the Bill to hold a plebiscite on the question of independence. The House is expected also to pass the bill. Roth Houses passed a similar bill last session but Governor Wood vetoed it. Under the organic law, if passed by both Houses, the decision will override Governor Wood’s veto, and be referred to President Coolidge for approval or disapproval. PORT KEMP,LA. LONDON, July 21. The swell carried away part of the wires of the Port Kcmbla. The engineroom and boiler-room are both flooded. The vessel is aground for the whole length. CUSTOMS RESTRICTIONS. LONDON, July 21. In the House of Commons replying to a question regarding the danger of restrictions involving customs delays under the Merchandise Marks Imported Goods Bill, which might cause rapid deterioration of soft fruits and an increase in expense, Mr Burton Chadwick said the Government, before acting, would await. the report of the Committee which is being established under the Bill. He did not fear danger would arise in view of experience of the customs authorities.
RELIGIOUS RIOTS. DELHI, July 21. Both Hindus and Mohammedans have resorted to guerilla warfare. In Calcutta there are stray eases of stabbing and assault, which occurred during the Mohurrmn ' Festival processions, which encountered the Hindu crowds in different localities on some whereof the police were compelled to fire. Six were killed and thirty-three injured.
