[Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.] RECORD FLOODS. PERTH, July 20. The south-western portion of the State is in the throes of a. flood that is unparalleled in the history of the State. Continuous rain has fallen for three weeks, and it culminated ill a violent storm which severely damaged the railways from Perth and Albany. As far 'West as Northam, communication has been completely disorganised. In many places six feet of water is over tlie railway line. It will be several days before communication is restored.
TIMBER. FREIGHTS'. SYDNEY, July 20. The Union Steamship Coy. of NZwill charge advanced freight rates on timber shipped from all New South! Wales ports to New Zealand. The increase will be thirteen and one-third per cent, dating from the first of August. and amounting to an average increase of about two shillings per hundred superficial feet. The N.S.AV. sawmillers state that this will he a deathblow to the export of timber to New Zealand.
