Australia won by an innings and fifty-nine runs. Ryder and Andrews drove vigorously and attractively till the latter badly mistimed a ball from Smith. Ryder and Richardson continued a bright display of driving and hitting anything loose but Ryder got out through over anxiety to reach fifty. /The innings were then declared.
Scotland opened slowly, Everett and ■Rvdcr doing most of the attacking. They maintained a good pace hut some were on the short side, tile ball often kicking badly. Collins showed great eunfideiice and effected several clever cuts. Maguire was a- mixture of confidence' and uncertainty, limes played attractively in both driving and hitting Richardson to leg powerfully; he had "“.•oven fours. The innings only closed with half an hour to spare, lain having interrupted the play during the afternoon.
CRICKET ASSOCIATION. 1 WELLINGTON, July 20. The local Cricket Association considered the proposal to send a team Home and decided to support it. It favoured an idea of forming a company to provide finance, and also decided to urge the council to appoint a. solo selector. COMING MATCHES. July 20—Scotland, at Edinburgh.
