The chief inspector oT fisheries icplying to a, com.nmhicntion from the Buller Acclimatisation Society with regard to oyster cultivation along the coast of AVestport, stated that temperature conditions in any part of the South Island were not suitable for the northern rock oyster. . With regard to the dredge oyster of Foveaux Strait, it would be necessary to make a survey of the coast in order to find out whether the depths, sea currents, character of the bottom, and sen water conditions were suitable, before anything could be done in the way of planting those oysters. This would mean considerable expense, which be was afraid the Department would not be in favour of incurring at the present time.
The senior grade Rugby League match between Addington and Marist B at Monica Park on Saturday afternoon finished before time. The Marist B team left the field. Their captain, Ji. M. Bla/.ey, was asked by the referee, Mr T. ICirton, to leave the field. The player did so, and two of his team, followed. Several of the Marist players had a short and sharp argument with the referee, and then the game was resumed for about a minute. After the next scrum one of the Marist men said he was going to leave the field, as he felt tired and “absolutely done.” Ho retired. So did the rest of the team, including one player who had returned after going off after his captain. The teams cheered each other upon the game being abandoned, and the referee received his usual round. When anproachcd, Mr Kirton would not state to the reporters his reason for ordering the player off, for he would make his report to the League executive. Tt is believed that his report will state that Blazcy argued against a decision. The game, viewed from the side-line, appeared to be played in good spirit throughout.
