WOMAN ASSAULTED
man mistook her for ms WIFE. “ 1 honestly thought it was my wife,” said Peter Busbridge, a labourer, who pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman at Christchurch in Fitzgerald Avenue oil Thursday night. The ease came before Mr 11. A. Young, S.M., at the' Magistrate s Court yesterday, when the accused was convicted and sentenced to two months imprisonment with hard labour lor the effects ol his little mistake.
The victim of the assault was Mrs Arabella Jack, and Senior-Sergeant Martin told the Court that she was
walking along the street on Thursday evening when the accused came up to her and struck her about the head and mouth. She called out for assistance, hut several men who were about ignored the appeal. The accused said that lie had not been at work that day and had had a lew drinks. His wife had been giving him trouble lately by drinking, and bringing other women to the home. On Wednesday night she had absented herself from home and ho had been out all day looking for her. Ho* honestly thought that it was his wife. it was stated that the man had been convicted for fighting, for obscene langunge aiul for theft.
