She is owned by the Holyman Line, and has been engaged in trading between Tasmania and Victoria. The men wore injured while abandoning the ship.
The fire was caused by an' explosion of benzine in the forehold. The flames rose one hundred feet in the air, AVlieri the first life-boat was launched it capsized, and the occupants had to seamhle hack on to the burning ship. The skipper says that when the TV no vong’s crew were leaving her, there was another terrific explosion. Tlie vessel did not sink hut she now remains a menace to navigation.
NEW GUINEA GOLD. MELBOURNE, July 10. Regardin': the gold discovery in New Guinea, cabled on 28tli June, the Administrators’ report fails to bear out the reports of the richness of the field, and warns people of limited means not to attempt fo reach the field, owing to the difficulty of access and the conditions generally. Papuan revenue for the past year showed a surplus of £16,533.
