M. .Cohen moved that in the opinion of tho Council, a British-born or New Zealand-born woman should not lose her nationality by the mere act of marriage with an alien, and that it should be open to her to make a declaration of alienage. On tlio assurance of Sir IT. Rhodes that lie would have the matter raised in the Cabinet with a view to the Prime Minister bringing it up at the Imperial Conference, as New Zealand could only follow an alteraton of the Imperial law, Hon Cohen withdrew his motion.

THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. The House immediately proceeded with the debate on the Budget. 'Hi© first speaker was Mr Forbes, and ho was followed by Messrs McCombs, Girling, Armstrong, Rhodes (Thames) and Lysnar, and at 11.5 p.m. Hon Downie Stewart replied. The House then went into Committee of Supply to consider the Estimates. and at midnight adjourned till 2.30 p.m.
