\_BY TELIJGHAPH--PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN ART GALLERY PROJECT DUNEDIN, July 13. - A special committee of the Dunedin City Council recommends the acceptance of the offer of Mr P. R. and Airs Sargood to provide funds to enable the Council to acquire the Art Gallery Exhibition building at Logan Park, for the housing of a collection in the present art gallery building.

NATIONAL DAIRY CONFERENCE. WELLINGTON, July 13. At the National Dairy Conference, Air Broadbelt, of the Levin Co-opera-tive Dairy Coy., moved: “That it be a recommendation to the Dairy Control Board to charge to the respective Companies concerned any coastwise freight at present included in overseas freight contract, the revenue derived from the companies to he returned to industry throughout New Zealaud on the pro rata basis of the amount paid by each company hv way of levy.” Several speakers pointed out that tho coastwise freight was a benefit to Taranaki only, and a burden on the remainder of the farmers. Mr ,T. If. Alurdoc-k (Timaru) said that his province did not want to take a penny from any one. It was a honelit to all. The best-solution was to obtain a ship that carried dairy produce | only, fill her up at one port, and then [ go straight Home again. The remit was carried, on a show of hands. It was decided that it be recommended for the Dairy Control Board to endeavour to reach a uniform agreement with all the distributors of New Zealand butter in Great Britain in regard to the matter of weights; viz., the New Zealand Government Grade Notes to he the basis of computation, with a minimum of 561 hs 6ozs to be accepted as 561bs, London (or other ports). It was resolved to recommend the Railway Department to draw up a scheme to enable dairy factory employees to travel at holiday excursion rates upon railways when travelling upon their holidays. It was decided: “That, having regard to the recent increase of tile duty in the United States on our primary products, the Alinister for Customs he urged to make an early revision of the New Zealand Customs tariff in respect to goods from countries where high customs duties arc charged, on New Zealand primary products.” To-morrow. Air Grounds (Chairman of the Dairy Control Board) will address the conference on the question of compulsory dairy control.
