A ROUGH PASSAGE.
AUCKLAND, July 13. Tlie coal steamer Canopus arrived from Westport this morning. She encountered a heavy gale on Saturday, and large quantities of water were shipped, the crew’s quarters being badly flooded for the greater part of the day. Her speed was »i little more than one knot per hour. The barometer fell to 29.10. BARQUE TO BE SOLD. AUCKLAND, July 9. Tho American barque, Guy C. Ross, which was arrested some time ago for debt, is to be offered for sale at public auction next Friday. Tho vessel lias been fourteen weeks at Auckland, the first ten of which were spent in idleness in the stream. At the end, the master and ereiv were given judgment, following Supreme Court proceedings in a claim for wages. A few weeks ago, the consignees brought the vessel to the wharf and had the cargo, consisting of 800,000 feet of timber, discharged by the crew, Who were paid for the work. If tlie vessel is sold, a substantial amount of the purchase money will he absorbed in reiinbuisiilg the consignees, the payment of light and harbour dues, and the wages of tke crew. The latter claim amounts to £B2O.
