HOCKEY.

< ~ BY TELECRAEH PRESS ASSN., COPYRIGHT. INDIANS BEATEN. AUCKLAND, July 10. A scintillating display of fast and brilliant hockey characterised the second test match this afternoon between the Indian Army hockey team and the New Zealand reps. Amid frantic excitement, New Zealand scored the first goal, and went on to make further scores. The score at half time was New Zealand 4. Indians 1. Then, in the second spell, the Indian Army team, playing stubbornly on tbe defence and exerting every ounce ol their energy and skill in attack, scored two more goals, making the tally lour to three in favour of New Zealand. The closing stages of the game were brimful of excitement, the Indian Army team penning New Zealand withiti their circle, and missing only by 11° narrowest of margins. Finally, the New Zealanders swept up the field, as the last half "as sounded, leaving them the victors by one goal of a margin. At the finish the air sounded with cheers. Charles Watts anil Erie Watts, of Auckland, who are brothers scored two goals each for New Zealand, and Capt. Bellchambei 1 scored all three goals for ‘the Indian Army. There was a great goal keeping exhibition for New Zealand by Fletcher (Waikato). It. was a feature of the match, while tbe intercepting of the New Zealand half line was very fine. Dili an Chand, the wizard Indian centre forward, was as closely watched as a cat watches n mouse, and he could do little else but endeavour to make openings for bis colleagues, and at least one of the visitors’ goals was directly traceable to his play. This is tho first defeat that the Indian Army team has suffered on its Australian and New Zealand tour. Eric Watts and McLeod, of the Now Zealand team were laid out with injuries, but they were able to continue.
