He was boi n ,n America in 1852 and landed in Auckland with his parents in 1807. He filled responsible positions in various parts of Auckland province and was elected Mayor of Dargaville ill 1903. When the joint committee of the ship owners and seamen’s representatives met to consider the wages adjustment, the, seamen’s advocate (Mr Young) asked for the exclusion of the Press? unless the "hole proceedings wore reported verbatim, on the ground that the men’s side was never as fully reported as tho employers’. Mr Pago (chairman) granted the request, not for the reason urged, but because it was a round-tlio-toble gathering, and be thought members would speak more freely if they were not reported.
