EVERYBODYS PICTURES. “SIEGE”—TO-NIGHT. Onto more Virginia Vaili gives a demonstration- of her unusual ability and versatility as a. screen aertess in hoi- role in “Siege,” the UniversalJewel attraction in which she is costarred with Eugene O’Brien. “Siege” is now showing at the Princess Theatre to-night. In the role of Frederieka Gage, an intelligent, strong-willed girl oi modern, type. Miss Vaili presents one of the most interesting characterisations of her career. Introduced by marriage into a conventional aristocratic'New England family, owners of huge woollen mills, Miss Valli, in this role, shows her acceptance of her now surroundings, and her constant battle against domination by Augusta Buylaud. a selfish, sarcastic and wealthy old woman who controls the private lives of the Buy land family as well as the corporation which owns the a mills. Eugene O’Brien gives his usually finished performance as Fredericka’s husband and the rather weak-willed heir to I,lm Ruyland fortunes, ahem his Aunt Augusta has dominated all his life. Mary Alden stands out <i>nnpicnouslv in one of the greatest parts of Ivor career—that of the vitriolic old dowager who holds the whip over the other members of her family. Although. it is unlike anything she Ims done on thS screen before, Miss Alden makes it her most convincing characterisation. Mare ATaePennott makes a perculiarly sympathetic character o( the mute who, completely ruled and overshadowed by the ruler of t lie I amity, finally is driven to suicide l>y her cruel tongues. A topical and comedy will also lie included. Miss Williams orchestra will play the incidental music
