Most.of the prominent gunmen are present to-day. There was fine weather and the visibility was good with no wind. The championship was won by H. Best (Palmerston North) 20, who takes the gold medal and £2l 2s Gd; H. Nitz (Masterton), V. Smith (Auckland) each 19, "take £7 0s 9d. Other scores were: D. McLaughlin (Masterton) 15, 11. Clinch (V aihi) 15, W. Symouds (AVhakatane), 14, A. Dobson (Auckland) 12. Fourteen others are below.

AN INQUEST. WELLINGTON, July 8. t oroner Hewitt held an inquest on Donald Hagart, killed on Monday evening at Lower Hutt, when riding a bicycle. The father said his son left home after six to bring home a cow. He. had with him an electric torch. Partington, bus driver for Cottrill, said that he was travelling with dimmed lights at twenty miles an hour. He caught a glimpse of a cow, and at almost the same instant he saw the boy. He applied the brakes, but could not avoid him. It was raining hard and visibility was bad. Giving a finding of accidental death, the Coroner said it was a most dangerous practice to ride unlighted or poorly-lighted, vehicles, on bitumen at night.

A MAN KNIFED. WELLINGTON, July 8. Eward Wutke was Charged with as-r saulting Charles Trigueros, seaman, so as to cause actual bodily harm. The affray occurred on the American steamer West Conob, accused inflicting a wound with a pocket knife in Trigueros’ thigh following a quarrel. The Sub-Inspector said the injuries had not proved as serious as at firpt thought. He suggested a reduction of the charge to common assault. To this accused pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, and was ordered to bo placed on board the ship when she sailed on Saturday.
