[Reuter Telegrams.] ENGLISH COUNTY MATCHES. . LONDON, July 7. County cricket results are:— Cambridge against Oxford, in the second innings made 191 (Duleepsingliji 30). Greenstoek took 5 for 77 and Mcßride 3 for 52. Oxford in their second made 173 (Stephenson 52). Elithoven took 3 for 10, Lowe 3 for 4ti, and .Tagger 4 for 31. Cambridge won by 34 runs. Gentlemen against Players, in the first innings made 185 (Fender 50). Gcarv took 5 for 52 and Clark 3 for 44. The Players in they- first innings made 137 for 6 (Hobbs 70, Sandham not out 57).
WIDEN THE WICKETS. LONDON, July 7. Bishop Browne, formerly Bishop of Bristol, who is now ninety-three years of ago, played for Yorkshire Comity 72 Tears ago. He says: “It was beautiful to SCO* Hobbs and Bhrdsley in the second test match. There seemed to be no reason* why they should not stat in for days, hut it seems to me that the hat’s mastery over the hall has unbalanced cricket. I played in the days of underhand howling and bumpy pitches. The bowlers chose the humps whereon to pitch the ball, and they broke violently. The batsmen, consequently, wipe often seriously injured. Nowadays, all the advantages are with the batsmen. I believe that all the dissatisfaction over the unfinished tests and first class matches, would be made to disappear in the simplest manner In- increasing the width of the wicket one inch each way. It would give Ihe howler an easier target, and give the batsmen more to defend. It . would make for fewer unsuccessful leg-before appeals,”
