The attendance was three thousand. Taylor opened l shakily. He should have been run out before he scored and was four times beaten by Wilson. He then hit out but found a difficulty in getting through the close set of the field. Burdsley played with the confidence and soundness which has characterised his recent innings. He treated all the howling alike, legging, cutting and driving impartially. When his score stood at thirty-live he had reached a thousand runs for the season. Ho was the first of the visiting team to do so and was roundly applauded by the Worcester men, led by Foster. He eventually threw away (his wicket in essaying a violent drive. The Board thou read 112 for 4. Richardson and Ponsford carried on very slowly and safely and when they had added 70 runs the innings were declared closed. Only two hours play were left when Worcester opened the second innings. Grimmett varying the break and turning the ball well, caused havoc among the early batsmen, four wickets producing eight rims. Foster and Hopkins stopped the procession and carried the score to thirty-four, both playing confidently. Andrews was bowling well but without luck. Tie had both batsman beaten with the. hall which kept very low. Foster went out the first halj he received from Mailey, driving it hard and low back to tbe howler, who made a fine catch. Root severely punished Grimmett hitting powerfully. Rogers followed'snit but they were unable to stave off a defeat. The innings closing with twenty minutes to spaie.
