HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONDAY, JULY 6th. The Committee met at 7 p.m. Present:—Messrs 11. R. Swcney (Chairman), Richards, Preston. Clarke, Shannon, Haselor, J. Coulson, Heinz, Redder and Conning (lion. sec.). 'From Canterbury Education Board in reference to payments for carriage of pupils .from South Spit; promising attention to request for some necessaries. and promising consideration to request for . fencing.—Received. From Dental Nurse stating during -May there Were 91 fillings, 70 extractions and 77 other attentions. For .June 112 fillings, 58 extractions and 112 other attentions.—. Received. From Rector (Mr E. Partridge) reporting owing to a mild outbreak of mumps and colds the attendance records show a decrease. For June the attendance being 300 primary, roll 322 and secondary 58. G. roll number 61. Miss Wallace had been off duty for two weeks owing to illness and was not likely to resume for a week or two. Last mouth Dr McLagan had visited and inspected the school and her report was very favourable. A special proficiency examination had been held by Inspector Irwin and 8 candidates out of 13-had proved successful. An appeal for fuel had been made through 'h ' scholars on Friday and Air Fodder had donated a load of wood. The ventilation of the dental clinic required. attention. The school football team had taken part in the sevenaside tournament and the 8 stone competition. Jersey.! for two teams were required. Afr 8. J. Irwin had donated several bosks for tillo library. Attention to the grounds had been given during the month.—Received. A vote of sympathy was passed to Aliss Waljaec wishing for her speedy recovery; a vote of thanks to Air Perkier and Air Irwin was passed for ,their donations and Air Haseler promised attention to the ventilation. The removal of the tree stumps on the ground was referred to Afr -Haseler for attention.

The Visiting Committee (Messrs Coulson and’ Shannon) reported on requirements. —Received and attention to he given. The Chairman and Afr Conning were appointed . visitors 'for the month.

Accounts presented for payment were passed and the Committee rose at 8 p.m.
