HOKITIKA CADETS

The Drill year for 1926 began on Monday 28th June, when a very good attendance of cadets were present for the opening parade. Several N.C.O.’s for the current year were selected, a few of the former N.C.O.’s having ) gone up into the territorials. Cadet / Cooper was selected for the most effi- L , cient cadet for the past year, 'and jr-q. will shortly be the possessor of tile I silver medal donated by Lieut. Bleach. Cadet C. Col Iyer was again the winner of the find lev Cup, with the good score of 10G points. These trophies will shortly be presented. A football team of Hokitika cadets will be travelling to Greymouth this Wednesday week for tbe purpose of trying conclusions with a similar team in Greymouth. The local boys are confident of success. It is to be hoped that all the members of the selected team will he able to travel, the difficulty in this case being that some of the players have their h ilf-holidays on Saturday, and therefore may not be able to get the afternoon off. In this connection it should bo remembered that the team is composed of picked representatives of the local cadets, and it would hardly he fair to the cadets as a whole if their picked players were unable to go, leaving a weak team to play for them in their first match with other - clubs. ' Those who are definitely unable to travel should send in notice as eririy as possible to either Mr Bleach or the captain. The team is as follows: y - hacks: IT. Stopforth, Hughes, M. Davidson, Macfarhne, R. Stopforth, A. Jones, M. Nestor (captain); forwards: Sutherland, F. Schroder, King, AHughes, Taylor, Herring, White and./ Broadbent. Emergencies, Iluxford, Jones, Schroder, Dowling, Chisholm, Dale. Heinz. A return match will probable he played on the Wednesday ( following. Later in the year athletic, competitions will be held, and should* do much to dispel the idea that t 'o cadets are good things to keep out of.
