Professor Haber, Germany’s leading chemist, and reputed to be the originator of gas warfare, made a remarkable appearance at the Inter-Parlia-mentary Union in the role of Satan rebuking sin. He not only denounced the use of poison gas on the battle field, but denounced all kinds of warfare. Professor Haber said that the idea, that organic life in a large city ('Quid be destroyed by gas belonged to the realm of phantasy. It was true that a great effect should be produced by concentrating .gas shells in a. confined area, hut an equal quantity of high explosive would leave nothing at all alive. There were now no gas secrets. The post war conferences of the exeprts showed, he said that “ everybody knew everything. It would be good if t-lie European nations realised that war is hot profitable.”
